TEN PALILULA FLATS BURNED OUT IN BIG FIRE

The top floor of a residential building at Starca Vujadina 22, settlement in Palilula, Nis, the fire was extinguished but it already burned a dozen of flats. According to information from the ambulance no one got hurt. PhD Igor Novakovic president of Palilula visited the people of this building and offered them temporary housing. Fire rescue units stayed on the location during the night for precautionary reasons.

The fire broke out at about 19 00 hours in the southern part of the attic of three connected buildings, and soon spread to the entire attic. Residents were quickly evacuated. Although the five fire engines arrived very quickly at the scene, fire extinguishing was difficult because they approaches to the building are very inaccessible. Practically only one fire truck with a crane was used. Firefighters were hampered by parked cars, so only after half an hour parking service began to remove cars. About 20 00 hours in this part of town the electricity was turned off to avoid greater damage.

Commander of Fire-rescue brigade Srdjan Nikolic said earlier that the fire did not spread to lower floors of the building. He added that members of the Serbian Army also came to help firefighters and they provided additional water for fire fighting. There is no official information of the causes of this fire.
